Serve like Jesus
Philippians 2:4-7 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
As we see in these verses, Jesus made Himself of no reputation. He inconvenienced Himself to the point sacrificing His own life in order to reach us. God wants us to let the same mind be in us that Jesus had. He wants us to take on the form of a servant. It is inconvenient to be uncomfortable, and it’s inconvenient to be a servant.
It’s even more inconvenient when we face spiritual battles as we stand with those we are investing in for the Kingdom of God. Truly, we encounter these battles because of Who we’re serving - the Lord Jesus. It’s wonderful to know that the victory is ours, and Jesus gives peace to help us through whatever we face.
Like Rosario Butterfield says in her book, The Gospel Comes with a House Key, “Radically, ordinary hospitality does not simply flow from the day-to-day interests of the household. You must prepare spiritually. The Bible calls spiritual preparation warfare. Radically, ordinary hospitality is indeed spiritual warfare.”
When we say yes to living like Jesus for Jesus, for the purpose of sharing the Gospel, it may be hard. Actually, it will be hard. The hardest part is usually dealing with our own flesh, but we get to serve with Jesus. We are not alone!
How does God want you to serve? There are many opportunities inside and outside the walls of the church.
It may mean we “give up” some of our freedom at night or on the weekend to do this, but have you ever done something for Jesus and regretted it? I’m guessing, like me, the answer is “no.” Let’s love and serve like Jesus!
