True Healing ❤️‍🩹🩺

Matthew 9:12-13 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

It has been inspiring to talk about Christian missionaries this month in “This Week @ Crosspoint.” Here’s our last one!

Carl Becker was a medical doctor who surrendered to serve as a medical missionary. He and his family spent much of their lives serving the Pygmy tribes of Central Africa.

Becker felt a deep calling to use his skills to serve marginalized communities, particularly the Pygmy people, who were often overlooked by both the broader society and healthcare systems. He moved to the dense jungles of Central Africa, where he focused on providing medical care to these isolated tribes.

Becker not only treated a wide range of diseases and injuries but also worked tirelessly to improve the overall health and well-being of the Pygmies, addressing issues like malnutrition, poor sanitation, and the prevalence of diseases like leprosy.

Leprosy, which was often a misunderstood and feared disease, posed a significant challenge in the communities Becker served. He provided medical treatment and care for those suffering from this debilitating condition, offering hope to many who were otherwise abandoned or ostracized. His compassionate approach helped to break the stigma surrounding leprosy, as he treated patients with dignity and respect, showing them love and care in a time when they were often isolated from society.

In addition to his medical work, Becker was deeply committed to evangelism and shared the Gospel with these tribes. He built relationships with the communities, earning their trust and respect, and used his position as a medical doctor to spread the good news of Jesus.

His ministry was used powerfully by God as it extended beyond physical healing.

Becker’s work with the Pygmies and his efforts to treat leprosy were groundbreaking, as he not only provided much-needed medical services but also helped to establish a foundation for lasting Christian witness and community development. Despite facing the challenges of living in a remote and often difficult environment, Becker’s dedication left a lasting legacy among the Pygmy tribes, where he is remembered both for his compassion and for his role in bringing healthcare, healing, and the gospel to a people who had long been neglected.

Disaster Relief

The Eaton fire devastated Altadena, Pasadena, and the surrounding areas. Many homes were destroyed and families displaced. Crosspoint has been blessed to serve our community by distributing waters, delivering air purifiers, giving clothes, as well as providing gift cards and some financial assistance.

We now have the opportunity to partner with Samaritan's Purse to help families clean their homes and search for personal items on properties that burned. If you would like to be a part of this effort, go to spvolunteer.org or call 626-808-6653.

Mark your calendar! 🗓

Exciting things are coming to Crosspoint! See below for several of these opportunities to serve and grow together. Be sure to save the dates and be a part.
