Disturbed? 😅😩
Job 23:10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Are you feeling pushed, pressured, maybe even a bit disturbed? Often we think these trials are special deliveries from Satan, but what if it is actually from God? He tests us and allows our our faith to grow. This is often His most effective way of getting our focus on Him and actually drawing us closer to Him.
What if our Good Shepherd makes us to lie down in green pastures by allowing us to be flat on our backs? (See Psalm 23)
I have thought often of the dangerous prayers we studied and prayed a couple of years ago. I wonder if God is answering some of those now? His timing is not our own.
I love the excerpt of this poem from Dangerous Prayers. It comes to my mind often in different seasons:
Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves, when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, when we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the waters of life; having fallen in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity, and in our efforts to build a new earth, we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim.
Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas, where storms will show your mastery; where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.
We ask you to push back the horizon of our hopes; and to push back the future in strength, courage, hope, and love. This we ask in the name of our Captain, who is Jesus Christ. Amen!
